Dr Adam Mwamburi (Ph.D) is a Muslim Community leader, educationist and a researcher fluent in English, Arabic and Kiswahili. Dr Adam holds Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Islamic Studies and Other Civilisations (International Islamic University (IIUM) Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. He also holds a Master’s Degree (M.A) in Islamic Studies, London, United Kingdom and Bachelor’s Degree in Education (B.A./Education: Arabic Language and Islamic Studies), International Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU). Currently, Dr Adam is a full-time lecturer at Umma University, Department of Islamic Studies.
Dr Adam has vast knowledge and experience in education and administration through teaching reputable institutions both locally and internationally. In his career engagements he has taught as a part time lecturer at Pwani University, Kenya, Methodist University (Kemu), Kenya Muslim Academy and International Islamic School, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia which offered the British Curriculum (IGCSE) and Cambridge International Examination (CIE).
Dr Adam is a Consultant on matters of Counter Violent Extremism (CVE) with Taita Taveta University (TTU) and is thus deeply involved in the Muslim community work not only in the Coastal region but Kenya in general. He is frequently contacted to attend conferences on National Strategy on Counter Violent Extremism by various human rights bodies. Dr Adam has a special passion on issues of human rights hence he pursued his PhD research thesis titled: Human Rights Issues and Muslim Minorities in Kenya After 9/11: A Case of Mombasa City.

PILLY MARTIN

Pilly Martin is a Conflict Mitigation and Management expert in the Greater Horn of Africa. She holds an MPhil Degree in the School of Environmental Studies and Bachelors in Political Studies from Moi University. She is currently the Conflict Analysis and Policy Advisor at DRC-DDG in Somalia, where she leads conflict analysis for Conflict Sensitivity and advises on emergency response, humanitarian and resilience programs; including advice on relevant policy development, representing the organization in Peace Building Working Group meetings, and in donor meetings.
Pilly is a dedicated professional with over twelve years combined experience in humanitarian and development work in Ethiopia, South Sudan, Somalia, Democratic Republic of Congo and Kenya. She has a rich experience working with reputable organizations (currently at Danish Refugee Council/Danish Demining Group, Coffey International, UNDP Kenya, ETC Netherlands, Mercy Corps-USAID, CARE International, IKV/Pax Christi and Lutheran World Federation). In these organizations, Pilly led and delivered results on inter alia state and community stabilization, partnership building and disaster risk reduction.
Pilly has specialized in peace building and conflict mitigation program management. She has immensely contributed to accomplishing social cohesion, revitalized relationships, accountability and stabilization through community safety, peace building, conflict mitigation, resilience and partnership building, interest based negotiations, advocacy and disaster risk reduction. Pilly has excellent skills in program development, management and monitoring. She has supported programs for conflict affected populations in Upper Nile State, Western Equatoria and Western Barghazal in South Sudan, Gambella Federal State of Ethiopia, Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, North and South Somalia and Kenyan Counties such as; Turkana, Marsabit, Baringo, Lamu, Tana River, Kilifi and Kwale.
Community contributions has been done in many forms but also around bio-protocol rights and power dynamics as seen in the Lamu-LAPSSET issue at http://pubs.iied.org/pdfs/14618IIED.pdf? (Chapter 17).

MELBA KATINDI

Melba Katindi is an advocate of the high court of Kenya and the founder and managing partner of Katindi & Company; a young upcoming firm that offers human rights legal services and specialist development consultancy; servicing legally underserved communities, nonprofits, government agencies and donors/development partners within the development context. She is an active member of Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) – Scientific and Ethics Review Unit and has been a reviewer since 2014.
She is a highly proficient legal professional with extensive experience in health and human rights law having attained over 7 years combined work experience in legal practice with a focus on human rights and specialized NGO experience in applied law promoting Social Justice and Rights-based approaches. Within the health sector, she provides legal and programmatic support to organizations working on HIV human rights and the law, TB related rights, Palliative Care, Reproductive rights in relation to Young women and Girls as well as health rights of key and affected populations in the context of HIV and TB. She is passionate about evidence-informed policies and practices and been involved in advancing community led research among various populations. She has been involved in formation of various legislative documents such as the current Health Act and providing support in public interest litigation to advance the full enjoyment of health related rights in Kenya. She continues to influence the field through her legal, programming and research expertise.
NATHANIEL KAINGU MTUNJI

Nathaniel has a Master’s degree in Natural Resources Management (Socio-ecology), a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources’ Management as well as diplomas in Range Management and Occupational Health and safety amongst other short certificate courses.
He has worked for several reputable organizations in different capacities including Programme Management at African Union (IBAR); Team leadership in an advocacy organization Act Change Transform; Technical Advisory roles in agriculture value chains at MESPT/DANIDA; Technical Head of the Climate Change Unit also responsible for Climate Smart Agriculture at East African Community and, currently Regional Advisor at The Centre for Coordination of Agricultural Research and Development/Southern African Development Community (SADC) based at Gaborone, Botswana.
He has over 30 years of progressive experience in the management of natural resources with a focus on sustainable development practices gained from different regional and international organizations involved in the efforts to ensure success in environmental management, Climate Change Adaptation in Agriculture (CCAA) in the African region. He has vast experience in project management, environmental conservation, leadership, capacity building and mentorship, provision of technical advisory roles, sub-granting, resource mobilization, proposal and report writing, financial management, monitoring, evaluation, reporting and learning (MERL) and analysis, tracking of project impacts, mentorship and capacity building to staff and organizations well as strengthening public, private partnerships for effective management of programmes in Kenya, East Africa and currently Southern Africa. His association as a Director at HURIA will boost the organizations quest for environmental justice and natural resources governance at the Coast of Kenya.
PATRICK MAINGI

Patrick Maingi is the Regional Trade Specialist / Advisor with USAID Kenya and East Africa, where he is responsible for the design, development and management of USAID’s trade portfolio, working to enhance trade within Kenya and East Africa, and between Kenya and the United States as envisioned in the U.S. Trade Africa Initiative. Before joining USAID, Patrick had worked with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) where he was as a Programme Officer (Inclusive Economic Growth, Environment and Extractives); with the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) as the Chief Resource Economist and with World Vision International as the National Economic Development Coordinator.
Patrick is currently undertaking a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Agricultural and Applied Economics at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Management, Economics and Consumer Studies (specialization in Development Economics) from Wageningen University (Netherlands) and Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics from Egerton University (Kenya). Patrick has additional qualifications in Leadership, Programme & Project Management, Grants Management, Monitoring & Evaluation, Agribusiness and International Trade.
Patrick Maingi has excellent communication skills, both written and spoken; he possesses a very good command of English and Swahili languages. His peers recognize him for his high levels of professionalism, confidentiality, enthusiasm, integrity and effectiveness on the job. A strong believer in the power of positive thinking, Patrick is always looking for ways to encourage people to achieve their best; he is part of the USAID’s staff wellness team.
Patrick Maingi is married and has two children – a girl (13) and a boy (5); he lives in Nairobi with “the wife” and “the kids”, and the occasional stray cat. In his free time, Patrick enjoys a good Netflix binge, but will also be seen travelling to new destinations (open spaces, mountains and beaches), hiking with friends and family, watching sports (mainly football, Manchester United, GGMU) and reading (reading is hard, but what would we be without a good read?). Patrick is religious and spiritual.
KEPHER NAKITARE WAFULA

Nakitare is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with an outstanding command of legal knowledge and currently an Officer with the Commission on Administrative Justice (Office of the Ombudsman) in Kwale County.
With over 4 years experience in legal issues, Nakitare has worked in private legal firms and The Judiciary where he was engaged as a researcher. Nakitare has deep interest in Human rights Advocacy. He holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Nairobi and a Post Graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law. Nakitare is a member of the Law Society of Kenya and the East Africa Laws society.
FRANCIS KARIUKI

Francis Kariuki is a Natural Resources Law, Traditional Ecological Knowledge and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) expert. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and a Master of Laws degree (LL.M) from the University of Nairobi, and is pursuing a doctorate at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa.
Francis is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, an arbitrator, accredited mediator and a doctoral fellow at Strathmore University Law School. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) London and Kenya and is an accredited trainer in ADR with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Kenya). Francis is also a listed arbitrator and mediator with the Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration (NCIA) in Kenya, and a member of the Strathmore Dispute Resolution Centre (SDRC). The Mediation Accreditation Committee (MAC) under the Kenyan Judiciary accredits him as a mediator.
He has participated in numerous research projects in his areas of
interest and written widely on property law, ADR, traditional justice systems
