A Sociologist with over fifteen years of broad experience in Research, Teaching and Training, Consultancy and Public Speaking in the countries of Germany, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, among others. Extensive experience in Medical and Health Sociology, Livelihood, Disability Studies, Health Impact Assessment, Social Impact Assessments, Supervision of Masters and PhD students, Curriculum development, University management; food security and food markets research; gender, HIV and AIDS, Conflict. Currently an Associate Professor & Consultant Sociologist based at Pwani University.

KOOME INYINGI

Koome is a seasoned journalist who has worked in the media industry for the last 8 years. He is currently the Programs Controller at Baraka FM. He brings in an invaluable experience of the fourth estate in the Board and has a great understanding of the social, economical and political dynamics of the region. He has a Degree in Political science and Sociology and a Diploma in Mass Communication.

Justus is a renowned Human Rights lawyer. His current membership in the Magistrate and Judges Vetting Board confirms his prominence. He is the former vice chair of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), Mombasa branch. He has a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Nairobi and a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. He is currently pursuing his masters’ degree in Law.

DR. MELBA WASUNNA

Dr. Melba is a Special Project Advisor on Extractives and Human Rights. Dr. Melba holds a Doctor of Juridical Science (Law) from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. Her area if research focused on corporate responsibility and accountability for human rights violations by multinational corporations conducing extractive operations in developing countries with weak (or absent) governance systems. She has substantive experience working with various governmental and non-governmental institutions within Kenya in areas of legal, advocacy, research, public participation and providing specialist legal advice and assistance in human rights as they pertain to extractives sector (oil, gas and mining). She has additionally carried out a variety of research initiatives culminating in publications on corporate human rights accountability, socio- economic rights, women’s rights, cultural identity and marginalization. Melba is admitted to practice as an attorney at the New York State Bar.

DR. FRIDAH SIMBA

Dr. Fridah Simba is the current Director, JKUAT Mombasa Campus and a lecturer in the areas of Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management. She is a holder of a Bachelor of Education Arts degree, MSc. Entrepreneurship and a PhD in Business Administration (Strategic Management Option).   Besides teaching at the University, she is also active in mentoring the young people and especially the girls and she strongly believes that the youth and women possess an immense potential to change society and the world at large.

With her leadership at JKUAT Mombasa campus, it has seen the campus voted and nominated for the prestigious award, ‘the most preferred Training institution in the Coast Region’, an event organized by the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) and Mombasa County.

We strongly believe being part of HURIA Board, she will bring on board not only her expertise in strategic management but also visionary leadership to steer HURIA’s Vision and Mission to a global mark.

MWANAMISI ALI LIBONDO

Committee Membership:

Mwanamisi is an accounting and finance professional with a Masters Degree in Business Administration and Finance from the University of Nairobi. She earned her Bachelors degree in Business Administration – Finance from Maseno University and currently pursuing her CPA.

Mwanamisi is also a businesswoman and has served both in the private and public sectors. At the age of 20 she worked with equity bank and held several positions that made her versatile, determined and a committed professional.

She has also previously served as a Member of the County Assembly of Kwale and served in different select committees where she was involved in formulation, review and dissemination of policies, programmes and strategic plans for the County Government of Kwale.

Beyond her tenure as a member of County Assembly, Mwanamisi’s passion and commitment to community work has continued and is currently actively participating in socio economic empowerment activities, giving her support in events organized by the County Government, NGOs, CBOs and other stakeholders.

In her early years, Mwanamisi emerged as the top student in Kwale County in her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations. As a young woman, she serves as a role model and a mentor to students and start up entrepreneurs in different spaces. She is a recognized mentor with several reputable institutions including the Equity Group Foundation (one of the largest mentorship programmes in Kenya), Akili dada (an incubator that nurtures leadership for girls and young women) and also recently appointed as a mentor under the University of Nairobi’s Mentorship Programme.

Her inclusion in HURIA’s board as a young woman professional gives the organization new oomph in enhancing its financial autonomy, integrity and resilience in the nonprofit sector.

MWASWERE JUMA

A Health sciences specialist with over ten years of health service delivery and over five years experience in teaching & training, curriculum development, research and consultancy. He has vast experience in health care services delivery and management, clinical teaching and assessments, community service on health & education, health impact assessment, sanitation and environmental health. I have substantive experience working with community-based organizations within Kenya on matters of education, child protection & reproductive health and advocacy. I am a holder of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Maters of Science in Nursing (Paediatrics) from the University of Nairobi. I am currently a PhD student at the University of South Africa (UNISA), Child health specialist and Lecturer at Pwani University.
