Accelerating State and Private Sector Measures to Eradicate Modern Slavery at the Coast of Kenya
Article 30 of our Kenyan constitution seriously abhors slavery in all its forms. However, slavery in its contemporary forms has permeated different sectors of the Kenyan economy. According to the 2023 Global Slavery Index, an estimated 239,000 + Kenyans are victims of Modern Slavery mostly in the agricultural, mining, tourism, and construction industries. Governments and non-state actors are implored under the SDGs to take immediate and effective measures to eradicate modern slavery in all its forms by 2025. While significant efforts have already been made, more strategic partnerships and concerted efforts are required to pool resources to scale up successful interventions.
